It Changes When I Change
This work originally formed a large part of my first solo show, Ceremony, which was funded by the Arts Council and shown at the Walcot Chapel in Bath in 2003.
It was an explorative show that addressed our interpretations of accepted social occasions. It used often overlooked or dismissed materials that deal with issues of desire, intimacy and nurturing including washing line, leather, latex and tissue.
Using material and fabrics, playing with perception, space, image and our immediate environment has been, and still is, a large part of my art practise.
In 2018, this work was selected for The Artist Project Space group members show SPACEs reimagined at Kosar Contemporary in 2018.
The suspended work, which spanned the gallery space, explored the wider urban landscape and the spaces utilised and appropriated by people — hanging washing, bunting and banners. Utilitarian, celebratory, political.
